Glad to Meet you, I'm Amanda.

Hi, I'm Amanda. I am a mother. I am a wife. I am a bookkeeper. I am a life-time learner.
My goal for this blog is to bring current bookkeeping, tax planning, and economic news or trends into your business world or personal life. I want more people to be able to understand the financial chaos that is our current lived experience.
Blog posts will start off with once per week, with the goal to increase posts over time. Affordability is necessary for my goal of inclusion and education to flourish. This will stay as $5/month for as long as the costs to write stay affordable at this price. You never know when the background fees may increase due to the current economic climate.
Who am I though? And why would you read my posts?
I am in my early 30s at the time of this post. I was born and raised in Maine. Yes, I am a Mainer at heart, but I am meant to live in Massachusetts. I always told my grandmother growing up that I would move to Massachusetts in my adult life. She was the most supportive of my move here with my family.
I have always had a passion of baking, cooking, education, and the financial world. I grew up with my mother as a Baker, however, mid-childhood she made the switch to Tax Accountant as an Enrolled Agent (EA) with the IRS. Quite the switch-up, I know!
My childhood consisted of living above a bakery with the smells of fresh baked bread, pastries, and donuts wafting upstairs when we lived in the city. Half-way through fifth grade, my mom and step-dad decided to pack up and move us to the country. This is the year my mom changed careers into bookkeeping, went to college, and became a Tax Accountant. I was invited into the office some time during my middle school career to help print, separate, and stuff tax organizers to help the office prepare for the upcoming tax season. If you can guess, this led to on and off jobs at the Tax Firm growing up through high school!
Once I graduated my senior year, I went to a local university my freshman year of college as a Psychology major. I was not sure which direction I wanted to go in. I made the choice by the end of Freshman year to switch to a Business Administration degree with a Concentration in Economics (this is the closest degree I googled to getting into accounting at the time). I moved a few hours south and began my Sophomore year at the University of New England in Biddeford, ME as a Business Degree student.
During my time at UNE, the most unforgettable experience I had was studying abroad at the Universidad De Pablo De Olivade (UPO) in Seville, Spain. I focused on my Economic studies while abroad and we used the United States as our "foreign country" for project and analysis. This is was an eye opening experience to see the different world view from another country of my home country. I learned a great deal about the importance of other's perspectives.
A few short years later, I graduated the University of New England in May of 2016. I followed my mom's passion, which has become my own, and emailed her my resume to ask for a permanent job at her Tax Office she now owns. I got my IPPIN and focused on bookkeeping services, payroll processing, and taxation. I became cross-trained on the front end as an Office Manager when she lost the front staff and went back and forth in positions as needed to help her company grow.
During COVID, I had two children, and the daycares all around my area were closing down. This created a hardship for working in the office in person. I gave my notice and agreed to start my own bookkeeping firm from my home office to continuing working on bookkeeping and payroll along with my mom. I could not support working in her office full-time, but we stayed in a working relationship to benefit our mutual clients.
Flash forward to 2023, my husband graduated with his Doctorate in Dentistry, we had a third kiddo, and made the decision to move to Massachusetts to benefit our family. I transitioned my client's back to my mom's office full time, and closed down my business.
As my kids have grown, I missed bookkeeping and working with clients and other professionals. I have started my new business here in Massachusetts to continue my passion. I hope that I can continue to serve my community by offering quality, efficient, affordable services, while also adding an educational blog to bring awareness and knowledge to today's economic and financial atmosphere.
Thank you for joining me on this new journey! If there is a topic you would like me to write about, then please email me at amanda@bryant-associates.org to request it.
Always multi-tasking,
Amanda
